No Tigers and Bears, though. [May. 19th, 2010|03:53 pm]

On Spec has just told me that they would like to buy "Carter Hall and the Motley Lions."

This is not just any Carter Hall story. This is the one I wrote the first week my grandpa was in the hospital. The original idea was that I would write it for pameladean, but it ended up also being for Grandpa and for his friend Milt. It's got the Tooth Fairy in addition to lions and old guys.

I am pleased.

I read that as "Carter Hall and the Moldy Lemons". (There are in-jokes around here about moldy lemons.)

That's awesome. *)

Heh. No, thank heavens, no moldy lemons here, but it's certainly a suggestive phrase!

Back in the late 90s, there was this hip new site called eBay, and a bunch of people were figuring out fun ways to use it. One day I walked into the kitchen at my workplace and saw a printout on the fridge: an auction listing for a moldy lemon. The description went into some detail about the lemon and the mold, and concluded (verbatim), "its not much, but for a moldy lemon its pretty good."

So if you ever hear me say that something is "pretty good", now you know to listen for the unstated "for a moldy lemon".

My goodness! That's very useful code, but also in some ways dangerous if you don't keep track of who knows it and who doesn't.

It's generally only used between me and sinboy; for everyone else I make the < sarcasm > < / sarcasm > tags much more obvious.
