Two Volkswagens of the Greater Twin Cities Metro, plus icon day

1. To the driver of the brown Rabbit: I realize you felt ironic and cool when you painted flames on your Rabbit. I really, really do. But did you have to enhance the statement by driving freakin' fifty on the Crosstown? I think the statement was complete. I really do. Ambient traffic was going 65. If you can't do that, there are plenty of lovely side streets along which you will be able to observe people's charming old houses. You will not be required to exceed 50 on these streets. Use them.

2. To the driver of the red VW microbus: thank you, thank you, oh, thank you for not only filling the back of your vehicle with shovels and rakes and implements of destruction but also letting them show in the windows. You have reinforced my sense of the world as it should be. I would also have accepted a blue VW microbus filled with people in traditional Arabian garb, but this was better. Much, much better.

minnehaha reminded their friendslist of "change your icon day" coming up. I'm going to Omaha for the weekend and likely will not have the time to change default icons unless I use one of these. Anybody have an opinion? I've had "take necklace pictures" on my list for weeks, but I keep getting confused when I look in the mirror -- I feel sure I didn't look like that yesterday, and I know it was completely different again the day before -- so I keep not wanting to take a picture of it lest I get more confused. (If you have days like this, please tell me. If you don't, please don't tell me; I don't need to feel any more psycho about this.) So...necklace pictures belatedly? One of the ones I've already got? Ignoring it all indefinitely?

I'm reading Bride of the Rat God, and I really wish more was happening in it. I love the setting -- of course I do; it's the 1920s, and there seems to be a rule that every female will have a weakness for at least one decade of fashion she couldn't wear in a million years (do you have this? what's yours?) -- but I get the point: Hollywood, gay people and cocaine and bootleg, characters established, somebody dead, can we move on? Well. We'll see if we can, I guess.

It's supposed to snow a fair amount tomorrow. Wish us luck driving.
